The Ordinary Skincare

Here’s something you may not know about me- I have horrible skin. I’ve battled cystic acne for years and I have super oily texture. Now that I’m getting older, I’ve started noticing wrinkles and lines too. But finding skincare that can address both acne and wrinkles- nearly impossible! The acne skincare dries out your skin and makes the wrinkles more prominent. The anti aging skincare is full of ingredients that make me break out. I can’t even begin to add up how much I’ve spend on trying new skincare throughout the past 20 years. I’m not sure I even want to.

Last month, during my Girls Weekend, my friends Jaime and Brandy were talking about the Ordinary Skincare line. I had heard of it but they were both using it and loved it. I tried a few of their products that weekend and ordered some as soon as I got home. The Ordinary is a part of the Deciem Skincare brand. I love this because the Ordinary is free of fillers or any harmful ingredients. So instead of spending $50 on some new Unicorn Youthful Miracle Cream containing fillers and junk, you’re spending your money on the specific ingredients that you need. And, this is a lot less expensive than some other skincare.  If you don’t know what you need, their website includes Regimen Guides and info about each product. Some products are not meant to be used together but the website gives you all those details.  I really wish I’d done before and after pics! My husband even noticed how good my skin looked a few days ago. I am only reviewing the products I own but maybe this can be a guide for you.

Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution: This helps to get excess makeup and dead skin on your face. I use this morning and night after I wash my face. Just squirt a little on a cotton pad and wipe all over your face. This is a mild exfoliant and really helps to brighten up your skin.

Niacinaimide 10% + Zinc 1%: This helps with excess oil on the skin. If you’re a dry skinned person, you probably don’t need this. I use this morning and night immediately after my Toning Solution.

Hyaluronic Acid 2% +B5: Hyaluronic Acid is an amazing anti aging ingredient and it can hold up to 1,000 times it’s weight in water. B5 hydrates the surface of the skin. I love this as it’s lightweight and can be used morning and night.

Retinol 0.5% in Squalene: Retinol is one of the best anti aging ingredients out there because it reduces the appearance of fine lines and damage. I use this at night. Because it’s a pure ingredient, I only use a little at a time. You don’t need more than a pea size amount for your entire face. The Ordinary has other retinol formulas as well.

Caffeine Solution 5% +EGCG: This has 5% caffeine in it and helps with tightening the skin. I use this morning and night around my eye area. It helps with puffiness and dark circles. It’s a lifesaver for nights of no sleep!

Buffet: If you get one product, get this! It’s the most expensive at $14.80 but it’s definitely worth it. This has several different ingredients in it to help fight aging. I use this morning and night as my last step.

AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution: Warning- This looks like blood when you put it on. This helps to exfoliate for a brighter appearance. Make sure to read the instructions and don’t leave it on for more than 10 minutes. I use this twice a week and the results are awesome. It helps to clear out the pores which makes your skin seem more smooth. The first night I used this, I walked into our living room and scared my husband.

High Adherence Silicone Primer: If you’re not using a primer under your makeup, start now! This is my new favorite. It goes on really smoothly and doesn’t peel or do anything weird like some other primers. It helps your makeup look smoother and stay on longer. It also reduces the look of pores. Use this right before applying any makeup.

That’s what I have so far. I want to try some of their Vitamin C products and start on their suncare too. I’m just waiting until I run out of my old stuff. I’m not paid for this post but I’m telling you about it just because it’s so amazing! The packing is very plain and it’s almost all in glass bottles. Side note: Don’t drop one on your tile floor. I nearly cried after I dropped my Buffet last week after only having it for about a week! I ordered more immediately! The bottles come with a little dropper and you only need a small amount of each product. The website takes the guess work out of anything too!

Give yourself or someone else the gift of great skin! We finished up Christmas shopping yesterday and got brunch at The Purple Onion.  Check them out on Facebook. They have a great Bloody Mary! I also managed to buy myself the Kat Von D Shade & Light Eyeshadow palette. Hey, it was $20 off! Merry Christmas to me!

**All photos and opinions are my own. There are no affiliate links so I’m not making any $$ off of this post. Unless the Ordinary Company wants to send me some product. I’m totally ok with that ***
