No Shopping Challenge and Stuff to Look Forward to

Happy Sunday!! I’m relaxing today. And by relaxing, I mean I slept in until 8:00, then cleaned stuff in the house I don’t always get to. I washed the blankets in the living room, wiped down all the windows and baseboards, and did some other cleaning stuff. Gosh, my life is exciting. Try not to be jealous. I also got in a good workout. I really wasn’t feeling it but knew I’d feel better after I did. And I was right. I did Turbo Fire HIIT 20. It’s a 20 minute fast paced workout. That’s what I do when I don’t feel like working out. I fina 20 minute workout and tell myself it’s only 20 minutes. I feel much better after a workout. That’s just one of the many benefits of exercise.

Yesterday I did something else I haven’t done in a long time. I got a massage. My husband gave me a gift certificate for an hour massage for my birthday last year and I finally used it! It was awesome. Massage has so many benefits. I’d love to get a massage once a month. I’d also love some Botox. I recently started watching Grace and Frankie on Netflix.  If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. The 2 main characters are played by Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. They are complete opposites and their husbands are partners in a big law firm. Then their husbands announce they are gay and leave them for each other. It’s absolutely hilarious. I just found out that Jane Fonda is 80. God, I hope I look that good when I’m 80. I better start the Botox now. I mean, we all know she exercises and I’ve got that down, but I’m gonna need some help to look like her. Lily Tomlin is one of the great women comedians and absolutely makes this show. Don’t watch it when your kids are around. Too much adult humor for little ears. I’m also totally jealous of the houses the people have in this show.

So, I’m trying something. I’m trying a 90 Day No Shopping Challenge. The only things I am allowing myself to buy are things to replace something. For example, I was out of bath gel so I stopped at Bath and Body Works yesterday and got some. Since it was their semi annual sale, I got 2 new bath gels. Hey, they were $3 or $4 each. I’ve realized I had too many clothes  that I don’t wear enough. One of my friends did this and she realized how much she spent on stuff she didn’t need. I started June 10 so I’ll be done Sept 10. My friends and I are planning a fall girls weekend so saving up for that will be a smart move. Also, I don’t want anything more because I’m hoping to sell this house and move. And the less stuff I have, the less I have to move. We cleaned out our basement prior to putting the house up for sale and I was amazed at how much crap we had. I mean, I’m not exactly a hoarder but man…it felt good to get rid of that crap. I’m so glad we did. This week Sibley had torrential rain for 2 days straight. Because of the rain, everyone’s basement got water backup. Ours hasn’t had water in it since the 1950’s and we even got a little bit. Our carpet is wet but can easily be dried out. The city’s sewer backed up and so many people got sewer in their basement. I’m so happy we didn’t get that! I talked to a friend this morning and her finished basement is completely ruined.

Can you believe we’re only a week and a half away from the 4th of July? That’s half way through the summer. Why does summer have to go so fast? I mean I love fall and holidays but I’m never completely ready to let summer go. At least I have some summer stuff to look forward to. Next week one of my favorite authors is releasing a new book. I love anything by Emily Giffin so I’m already excited to read her new book All We Ever Wanted I have no idea what it’s even about. I just know I’ll like it. Also, I’m excited to read Eat Cake, Be Brave  by Melissa Radke. I started listening to her podcast awhile and ago and she is a hoot. I want to be her. I’d love to write a book and have a podcast and do some good in the world. Then I’d make her be a guest on my podcast. Next weekend I’m heading to Des Moines to visit friends. My friend Tiffany is having a Deck Party. No reason really, just an excuse to have people over and see friends. I’m in. I’m meeting my girls for dinner Friday evening. Possibly at Taco Hangover again. My husband was supposed to join me but is staying back  for a memorial party for a friend. His friend, Jay, passed away from cancer a few weeks ago. Next Saturday, they are holding a memorial party at the country club. The instructions were to come in shorts and flip flops and have fun because that’s what Jay would do. I think it’s an awesome idea. Also, I’m hoping to get to Des Moines again in August for the State Fair. I haven’t been there for 3 years so definitely need an afternoon there with my friends. I’m so glad I have these trips planned but man, it makes me miss Des Moines like crazy. I miss that place more in the summer than any other time. It’s really the best. I was sad this weekend seeing social media posts of friends being at the Des Moines Art Festival. However, we’ve went out the past 2 weekends so I really can’t be too sad.

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I didn’t mention this earlier. One of my best friends just had a baby! She lives in Oregon so all I’ve gotten is pics and Snapchats of him but I want to plan a trip there to see her. Plus, Oregon in the fall would be amazing. So that’s another thing to look forward to. Maybe my No Shopping Challenge is coming at the right time!

Ok, that’s all for today. I know this isn’t a super exciting blog and doesn’t have a ton of products like I usually do but I am working on some stuff.  Check out this pic of Deuce taking a nap today.  I think I may have to join him….
