Another Snowstorm, Another Recipe, and a lot less complaining….

So, guess what? Today is April 8 and northwest Iowa is having ANOTHER snowstorm. I don’t know if snowstorm is an accurate word. But the snow is coming down pretty heavy, so I’m saying it. If this were November or December, everyone would think it was festive and would be singing Christmas carols. However, it’s April, and according to social media, everyone is over the snow. I asked my husband if he wanted to watch Christmas Vacation this morning and he looked at me like I was crazy.

Anyhow, I’m not minding the snow day. It gives me a chance to do something I don’t often get to do, which is do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. We ate a big breakfast while my husband watched his shouty news shows. I don’t understand. Every news show on a major network is just politicians and political commentators shouting at each other and speculating on what Trump is going to tweet about next. It stresses me out just to listen. Oh well, I’m  gonna enjoy this (hopefully last) snowday by watching binge watching Parenthood (sidenote: I’m in Season 4 and one family FINALLY got a dog!), reading, and doing some laundry. We had a house showing yesterday so the house is nice and clean. Right now I’m reading Bossypants by Tina Fey. I love her. She’s smart, funny, and seems down to earth. In my opinion, she can do no wrong. My next item on my bucket list is to see Mean Girls on Broadway. But since I’m in northwest Iowa, it will be awhile before it comes anywhere close. a4d8d3c960d37386999f9d4fda3576d7

So remember earlier this week when I talked about needing to get out of my rut? Well, I made myself do it. Thursday night I went to an Insanity Live class and it was EXACTLY what I needed. I got an awesome workout in and got to chat with some fun people. Friday night we went out to eat with some friends and last night we went to Mulligan’s (the bar at our country club) opening party. I really didn’t feel like going but I made myself put on a cute outfit and went. Plus, I had purchased new jeans last weekend so I felt the need to wear them in public.  (Put a pin in that, I’ll come back to it). We met up with 2 other couples who were with us on our Florida trip and I ran into a lot of people I hadn’t seen in awhile including a friend I hadn’t seen since high school who now lives in Dubai. Way more interesting than Sibley! All in all, it was a good night. We reminisced about our trip and started planning our next. All of us loved going right after Christmas, but we’re thinking about going in warmer weather next time. Maybe late May or early August of 2019. So we have that to look forward to.

Ok, so my new jeans. Who else is happy that flared jeans are coming back in? Skinny jeans are fun and all but flared jeans are so much more flattering. However, finding flared jeans is a whole new problem. I have short somewhat muscular legs and a long torso. I carry most of my weight between my knees and my hips so finding jeans that can fit over my legs and butt usually means they are way to big in the waist. I’ve found the best place to find jeans is Boot Barn.  Most of their jeans are made for horseback riding and they seem to be higher quality. They all have nice thick denim and just the right amount of stretch. I have a pair of boot cut Ariat jeans that I love. I was really in the market for flares this time and when I say flare, I mean a nice wide flare. Boot Barn doesn’t have the exact jeans I got online but this pair is similar. I got the  Rock and Roll Cowgirl brand High Rise Trouser jeans. I also see they are on sale now! These jeans are awesome. They are super comfortable and really flattering. (That’s not my body in the pic below!)  My husband hates skinny jeans so he made sure to compliment them a few times. I wish I’d taken a pic because my outfit was kind of cute. I wore my new jeans with a long cream colored shirt, low heeled brown boots from Walmart, and a bunch of turquoise and gold jewelry. The boots are $16.97 online but if you go to the store, you can get them for $9.00! They are super cute and surprisingly comfortable.

Well, my coffee is gone and the laundry needs switched. I hope you’re all making the most of this snowday if you’re stuck at home. I think I have my husband convinced to watch Stepbrothers with me at some point today. Also, I think we’ll make some chili. Here’s the recipe we usually use!

Whole 30 Chili

Ingredients:

1 lb ground beef

2 cans fire roasted diced tomatoes

2 cups chicken broth

1 large yellow onion- chopped or diced

1 TBSP cumin

3 TBSP chili powder

1 TBSP garlic powder

1 small can tomato paste

Salt and Pepper to taste

In a large soup pot, brown and drain the ground beef. Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes on higher heat. Reduce heat to medium and add the tomato paste and spices and mix well. Add the chicken broth and let it reduce for about 5 more minutes. Stir in the fire roasted tomatoes, season with salt and pepper, and let simmer for about 45 minutes. Or, if you want to be like me, just brown and drain the hamburger with the onion, add everything else and let it simmer or put it in the crock pot on low for a few hours!

Have a great Sunday. I’m just gonna leave you with this picture of Deuce taking a nap on the couch. It pretty much sums up my day : )
